IOMP AWARDS 2012
Prof. Mistretta is one of the most prominent scientists in Medical Physics. He introduced a number of new imaging methods in X-ray and MR Imaging and pioneered the method and equipment for Digital Subtraction Angiography, which laid the foundations of contemporary digital fluoroscopy and radiography.
Alongside his extensive research Prof Mistretta has supervised some 30 PhD students. They have gone on to develop numerous clinically important imaging modalities such as spiral computed tomography (Kalender), magnetic resonance fluoroscopy (Riederer), thermoacoustic computed tomography (Kruger) and dual modality computed tomography/single photon emission computer tomography (Hasegawa).
Prof Mistretta has more than 120 invited presentations and visiting professorships to his credit.
He will receive his IOMP Award at the International Conference of Medical Physics, ICMP2013, Brighton, UK.

Caridad Borrás, obtained a Doctor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Barcelona, Spain, with a thesis done in Philadelphia, USA, as a Fulbright scholar.
She is certified by the ABR and the ABMP. She has worked as a medical physicist in Spain, the USA and Brazil.
For 15 years she ran the radiological health program of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization in Washington DC, where she now has a faculty appointment at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and works as a consultant.
Dr. Cari Borras organized numerous international activities and authored publications on diagnostic and therapeutic radiology services, radiation safety and radiation accidents.
Dr. Cari Borras chaired the IOMP’s Science Committee from 2000-2009 and currently co-chairs the Health Technology Task Group of the IUPESM.
The ACR and the AAPM distinguished her as “Fellow” and the Spanish Medical Physics Society awarded her its Gold Medal.
